Well, the time has come for Palm Springs to vote on the ordinance to allow medical marijuana collectives.I know we all want an ordinance and we want it BAD, but do we really have to sell out our souls for it and make unrealistic concessions or should we wait until a DECENT ordinance is formulated - maybe even forget about the ordinance completely since things seem to be going very well right now???Unfortunately, the final revision that the City Council will decide on this Wednesday has some serious shortcomings that will cause a lot of harm to the patients and providers in the valley. Regardless of what many have been lead to believe, DON'T BE FOOLED and THINK IT THROUGH. I STRONGLY disagree with the terms of the ordinance and OPPOSE it since it is unfair and wrong.Just a few of the MAJOR flaws:1) Low income/disabled patients will NOT be able to use public transportation/busses to obtain their meds and they will have to rely on private transportation.2) Relegating collectives to industrial/commercial zones is dangerous - who wants to be out in the middle of nowhere at night, ready to get robbed and treated like a second class citizen? I don't see Walgreens or Rite Aid relegated to Industial/Commercial only zones! Why should we be treated like second class citizens?3) FACT: Only 1 or 2 collectives will be allowed to operate due to the unfair and discriminatory conditions that have been added to the ordinance (the worst restriction of all, at Cannahelp's request - collectives MUST be 1000 feet away from each other? Take a look at the map, how many spots can you find that comply with the restriction that requires collectives to be 500 feet away from residential disticts, THEN consider this 1000 foot rule and realise that there TRULY ARE only about 3 locations that will qualify and be allowed to operate - Stacey's, WVPCA and OSD!!!)....Great for those 2-3 collectives will have a MONOPOLY and be able to go back to $70 eighths! HORRIBLE for the patients who have finally started to see decent pricing due to the increased availability. There will be NO exceptions or conditional use permits (WHAT kind of logic is THAT? They cannot even CONSIDER exceptions on a case by case basis???) - the 2 or 3 that are permitted to operate under the proposed terms will be allowed to dictate pricing and availability for the whole valley? Do YOU agree with this? Do you think it's right? ..... Limit it to a certain number or something if you feel you MUST, but make it REASONABLE so patients can choose where to get there medication and not be forced into making HUGE concessions. No matter how you wrap this one up, it is WRONG and I encourage everyone to oppose this ordinance as vocally and actively as possible!!!! We have to STOP it BEFORE IT BECOMES A DISASTER!!!!!! NO ORDINANCE AT ALL would be better than this one.... OTHER CITIES WILL FOLLOW OUR LEAD - PLEASE HELP STOP THE ORDINANCE!
